Jason Burkins was born in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1975. His family moved from Chicopee to Wilbraham, Massachusetts when he was three years old. Jason attended public schools in Wilbraham and graduated from Minnechaug Regional High School in 1994. 

Burkins studied broadcast communications and political science at Springfield Technical Community College and American International College.

During college, Jason worked as a radio news reporter and weekend news anchor for local radio stations before beginning a career in financial services.

Burkins has been active in local and state politics and was elected Wilbraham Housing Authority Commissioner in 1997. He currently serves on the Wilbraham Open Space and Recreation committee.

He is also active with several civic organizations, community service organizations and charities.

Jason enjoys travel, music, live concerts, cooking, learning to play the guitar and spending time with friends and loved ones.
